Synopsis (from Goodreads):
the cold.
Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.
the heat.

Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace...until now.
the shiver.
For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.

Initially when you look at this book and read the back you think this is a story about werewolves. However, while being a story about a werewolf it is mainly a story about love. The love between Grace and her werewolf Sam. There are many struggles and obstacles that Grace and Sam face and this story is their journey to finding each other and not letting the other one go.
Shiver is told with alternating perspectives between Grace and Sam. This is not usually what I am used to but I have to say that it was refreshing and I was glad that it was written this way. It was really nice to be able to see the perspectives of both main characters as the book went on. Steifvater was able to create believable chemistry between her two main characters. Their love, longing and despair is evident and you feel for their plight right till the end of the book.
Shiver was well written and if you are looking for a character driven story than this book is for you. There was great imagery laced throughout Shiver and Steifvater was able to create characters that you can enjoy reading on the page.
