FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS
It is once again that time of the year and the holidays season has begun. This also means the run down of the Twelve Days of Christmas. These posts are festive in nature but also book related which is the most fun! I love this time of the year, with all the lights, Rudolf and his red nose and eggnog lattes (yum). Now lets get to this years topic and it is... Unforgettable Character Names. This list is in no particular order however I do love all the names on this list. They made it because they are unique, well suited to their characters and of course "Unforgettable". So enjoy and let the fun begin:)
❅
1 Artemis Fowl from Artemis Fowl series
2 Bruce Wayne from Batman
3 The Hobbits (Frodo Baggins, Samwise 'Sam' Gamgee, Peregrin 'Pippin' Took & Meriadoc 'Merry' Brandybuck) from Lord of the Rings

We have come to the end of the list and number one is not a widely known character. However anyone who has read this series will agree that Artemis Fowl is a very rare anti-hero lead who is as dynamic and memorable as his name. I hope everyone has enjoyed these posts as much as I enjoy making them. See you guys in 2013!!

I must have seen this film series a million times and I never tire of them. Tolkien had an extensive imagination building a world the we all fell in love with and characters as rare and unique as their names.

Elphaba Thropp is the main character in Gregory Maguire novel The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Initially I loved the name and then I heard how Maguire came up with it at which point I fell in love with it even more. (Maguire formulated the name "Elphaba" out of L. Frank Baum's name, taking the phonetic pronunciation of his initials: hence, L.F.B became El-pha-ba).

J.K. Rowling had a knack for pulling out original names like a magician pulls a rabbit from a hat but 'Severus Snape' was by far my favorite of the bunch.

An unforgettable and much beloved story with an equally unforgettable character name. The name 'Atticus' rose to prominence and mythic proportions after this books publication and I couldn't agree more. Love it!!

This is a series that is on my TBR pile. But can we just talk about how awesome the name is for a second. When you have a first name that means seven and you are the seventh son of a seventh son then you know it is going to be memorable. Cool and unique... Definitely!

Even though this movie is a huge commitment, given the fact that it is so long, it's still a classic. Scarlet's name is a fiery as the heroin who bears it and that is why it is on this list.

I loved Great Expectations when I first read it in high school, so it was no surprise that Philip Pirrip or "Pip" for short would make it on the list. This name rolls off the tongue quite nicely and the way it rhymes makes it easy to remember. I love the story and of course "Pips" name as well.

FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS
| THE SOUTH |
Last year to commemorate the holiday season I made a string of special posts inspired by the Twelve Days of Christmas and this year it is back but the topic is new and I hope just as exciting as the last. This years the countdown will be on Novel Destinations. Stories where the setting was not just a mere back drop but an extra character in the story as well. So enjoy and let the fun begin:)
❅
12 Out of Africa by Karen Blixen
11 Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
10 Quentins by Maeve Binchy
9 The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
8 Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo
7 City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
6 Persuasion by Jane Austen
5 Tales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving
4 The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares
3 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
2 Anne of Green Gables Lucy Maud Montgomery
1 Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
❅
So final drum roll please.... The number one novel destination for me personally was Beautiful Creatures for many reasons. For one, I have never really read a book about the south and when I picked up this one I was intrigued and entranced by the place. And secondly, there is a big credit here that goes out to writers Garcia and Stohl because they described the south so beautifully and descriptively that, soon after reading it, I was talking about the south and googling what I could find out about the south. The town of Gatlin might very well not be a real place but to me it was as real as it could have gotten. Great book and excellent setting.
And I am sad to say that that concludes another year of THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS posts. Thanks again to everyone who came to check it out and comment. I am already looking forward to next year and what topic we will have then. Happy holidays everyone and happy reading.

A Canadian classic. I grew up with this book and it's wonderful movie adaptation since I was little. The majestic beauty of the natural countryside and the hills of untainted green grass makes me nostalgic for it it every time I think about it. I have not been to PEI (Prince Edward Island) but it is on my must see places and it is close to the top of the list. I feel like it is a part of me and I have fallen in love with it even though I have never been there.

The Moors of Yorkshire England are beautiful, rustic, and a great backdrop for a story as loved as this one. The title of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors of the story. The narrative centres on the all-encompassing, passionate but doomed love between Catherine and Heathcliff, and how this unsettled passion eventually destroys them and many around them. Although not as beloved to me as Jane Eyre is, the moors of Wuthering Heights have become imprinted on my psyche as one of the most beautiful places in the UK. And therefore, a place I hope to be able to see.
