FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS

THE SOUTH
Last year to commemorate the holiday season I made a string of special posts inspired by the Twelve Days of Christmas and this year it is back but the topic is new and I hope just as exciting as the last. This years the countdown will be on Novel Destinations. Stories where the setting was not just a mere back drop but an extra character in the story as well. So enjoy and let the fun begin:)
12 Out of Africa by Karen Blixen
11 Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
10 Quentins by Maeve Binchy
9 The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
8 Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo
7 City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
6 Persuasion by Jane Austen
5 Tales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving
4 The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares
3 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
2 Anne of Green Gables Lucy Maud Montgomery
1 Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
So final drum roll please.... The number one novel destination for me personally was Beautiful Creatures for many reasons. For one, I have never really read a book about the south and when I picked up this one I was intrigued and entranced by the place. And secondly, there is a big credit here that goes out to writers Garcia and Stohl because they described the south so beautifully and descriptively that, soon after reading it, I was talking about the south and googling what I could find out about the south. The town of Gatlin might very well not be a real place but to me it was as real as it could have gotten. Great book and excellent setting.

And I am sad to say that that concludes another year of THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS posts. Thanks again to everyone who came to check it out and comment. I am already looking forward to next year and what topic we will have then. Happy holidays everyone and happy reading.

xxDarcy

  2. Ok talk about coincidence. I came across Oak Alley for the first time on another random blog less than 1/2 an hour ago. Crazy! But that place is beautiful....
